CAMDOM - The "Digital Condom" App
The German company, Billy Boy, launched a mobile application called CAMDOM, popularly referred to as the "digital condom." The app intends to protect users from being filmed during sex, so that their consent may be breached. CAMDOM is not a contraceptive that one can take out of the box; it is, instead, a privacy and security tool to keep things intimate and private. Currently, CAMDOM is available for Android users in more than 30 countries. An iOS version is expected to be released soon.

How does CAMDOM work?
The app works via Bluetooth and disables the camera and microphone functions on nearby devices. Just swipe the virtual button, like any online gesture, to start CAMDOM. Once CAMDOM is activated, it disables the camera and microphone of connected devices.

- Step 1: Download the Camdom app. The Camdom app is currently only available for Android devices, but there are plans to launch an iOS version soon.

- Step 3: Camdom blocks recording devices. This action triggers a block on the cameras and microphones of the smartphones that are in close proximity.
- Step 4: Alert system triggered if security breached. If anyone tries to bypass the block, Camdom's technology detects this and sends an alarm to all users to signal a potential threat of a non-consensual recording.
- Step 5: Multiple device blocking. Camdom can block multiple devices at the same time.
Purpose of Camdom
Billy Boy, the German sexual wellness brand behind Camdom, developed the app in response to concerns about the non-consensual recording of intimate moments. The company states that they were motivated by the rising cases of cyber fraud and blackmail in the digital world. They specifically reference the alarming situation amongst teens around the world of revenge porn, which can spread quickly and be difficult to track, often causing emotional distress and other harmful consequences.
